Today’s Topic: The Mask of Shame

Scripture: Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. Psalm 51:1–2, NLT

Today’s Word
Psalm 51 is the psalm in which David admits and repents of sins that he had covered up for over a year. He not only took off the mask of pretending he had done right, but under that mask was a mask of shame. “I can’t believe I did this. What is wrong with me? I’ll never become what I could have been.” The mask of shame will keep you from your destiny.

Voices will constantly whisper, “You should feel ashamed and unworthy of being forgiven. Look what you did. You can’t take that mask off. You’re showing God that you’re sorry. You’re paying Him back for your sins.” No, the price has already been paid by Jesus. You can’t pay God back, and you don’t have to live guilty and condemned. You may have issues that you’re not proud of, that you’ve covered up. It’s time to take off the mask of shame.

No matter what you’ve done, God has mercy for you. He didn’t disqualify you. Acknowledge what it is and ask God to forgive you and cleanse the guilt away.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for Your unfailing love and great compassion that blots out the stain of my sins. Thank You that I can come to You for forgiveness and mercy and for truth in my heart. I ask for a clean heart and to walk in the joy of my salvation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

A small act of obedience can lead to a big blessing. It may be forgiving the person who did you wrong. Or forgiving yourself for mistakes you’ve made. It may mean getting up in the morning and emptying out the low self-esteem, the insecurity, and reminding yourself who God says you are. A small act can change your life. Maybe it’s to quit hanging around that friend who’s causing you to compromise. Or not listening to all the negative news while driving to work that’s causing you to be mad at the world. Instead, put on something uplifting, inspiring, that gives you hope and victory. Do what you can, and God will do what you can’t. You make a move and He’ll multiply your steps. You lift up your head, and He’ll turn things around that you thought were permanent.

God is not limited. He controls the universe. When you believe, all things are possible. In the natural, we may be stuck, but God is supernatural. He makes streams in the desert. He brings water out of a rock. He parts Red Seas. Peter caught a fish that had a coin in it to pay his taxes. God is not scratching his head trying to figure out how to get you unstuck. He’s going to do things that you never saw coming, that exceed your expectations, explosive blessings that catapult you into your destiny.

Don’t come up with all the reasons you can’t get out of debt, you can’t get well, you’ll never go further in your career, that child of yours will always be off course. Do yourself a favor. Lift up your head. Have a new perspective. “God, I don’t see a way, but I know You have a way.”
